This Homemade French Onion Dip calls for only 8 ingredients (7 are pantry items) and can be whipped up in 5 minutes. It's a naturally low-carb appetizer - just dig in with your favorite veggies and enjoy a healthy snack.
To make the dip, combine the dried mix with sour cream well. Let stand for 30 minutes for all the flavors to infuse together. Top with caramelized onions, if using.
Caramelized Onions (optional)
If you're doing this, start on this first as it takes time to caramelize onions. Melt butter on medium-high heat in a skillet and toss sliced onions.
Slowly cook for the sugars to caramelize for approximately 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Prepared dip can be stored in the refrigerator for up to one week. Mix can be stored in airtight container for up to 2 months (but may clump - see notes).
Notes
Dried Mix makes 4 tablespoons. You can double that batch and reserve it for later use. Note that it may clump together but when combined with sour cream, it should be easier to break apart and mix.
