Reasons to Love this Greek Yogurt Blue Cheese Dressing

Homemade blue cheese dressing sounds fancy, but it's one of the easiest things to make. I've been making this recipe for years and it's so crazy stupid simple...it almost feels like cheating. If you can stir a spoon, you can make this - and your salads (and wings) will thank you.

It has just 5 basic ingredients and a bowl. If you've got yogurt, mayo, and a decent chunk of blue cheese, you're basically half-way there. Once you taste this, there's no going back to storebought versions.

Ingredients for Homemade Blue Cheese Dressing

    ingredients for blue cheese dressing.

The dressing comes down to simple, quality ingredients. Use full-fat Greek yogurt for creaminess and real mayonnaise for that classic texture. I always use my homemade avocado oil mayo. Grab a good, crumbly blue cheese - not the dry pre-packaged stuff. Lemon juice and apple cider vinegar add tang, while garlic gives it a kick. Finally, salt and black pepper tie it all together. If you want to thin it out to a pourable consistency, a splash of milk or water does the trick.

How to Make Blue Cheese Dressing

step 2 of how to make blue cheese dressing.

    Step 2. Instructions

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients including Greek yogurt, mayo, blue cheese crumbles, lemon juice, apple cider vinger, garlic, and salt and pepper. Stir to combine.

    Helpful Tips

    1. Mash the blue cheese thoroughly with a fork to break it down to your desired chunkiness to help mix better with the creamy base.
    2. Adjust the consistency of the dressing by adding milk or water gradually until it reaches your preferred thickness. A little goes a long way.
    3. Let the dressing sit for at least 30 minutes in the fridge before serving to let the flavors meld together.

    Troubleshooting

    • Dressing separated during storage? It's natural for some separation to occur - just give the dressing a good stir before serving to recombine everything.

    Serving Suggestions

Salad: Obvious, yes, but this shines on a wedge salad or this buffalo chicken salad with crunchy lettuce and crispy bacon.

Dips: Dunk your buffalo chicken wings, veggie sticks, or even sweet potato fries.

Burgers & Wraps: Slather it on a burger, sandwich, or in a wrap - especially with grilled meat or roasted veggies.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do I store Greek yogurt blue cheese dressing?

Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 days. It will thicken as it sits, so feel free to stir in a little water or milk to loosen it up before serving. For best results, always keep it chilled, and give it a good mix before using.

Can I freeze blue cheese dressing?

No - dairy and mayo don't freeze well. It will separate into a sad, grainy mess. Homemade blue cheese dressing is best made fresh when you need it.
