This Easy Taco Seasoning requires only 6 ingredients and 5 minutes of your time. The best part is that it doesn't have any sweeteners, starches or weird thickeners and is Paleo, Whole30, and Low Carb.
I was surprised to see just how many pre-made seasonings on the market contain weird ingredients such as various thickeners, sugars and other nasty additives.
Even "organic" labels often have questionable ingredients.
Easy Taco Seasoning (Paleo, Whole30, Low Carb)
The good news is that making your own seasonings does not require a lot of effort. It's just a matter of blending a few herbs and spices (of which you probably already have in your kitchen) together to create the most perfect combination to be used in your favorite taco recipes.
The greatest benefit from making your own seasonings is that you end up with a product that is totally healthy. That's why this taco seasoning is naturally Paleo, Whole30, and Low Carb.
Make the Perfect Taco Meat with this Taco Seasoning
You know what makes this taco seasoning stand out from the rest of the millions of seasonings on the internet?
It's the perfect ratio of perfect texture. This recipe has just the right amount of fine seasonings as minced. Instead of garlic powder, we use minced garlic (or garlic granules as it's sometimes known). Instead of onion powder, we use minced onion (or onion granules).
A big benefit to using granules instead of powder is that you can shave precious time and avoid sauteeing onions when making taco meat. The minced onion rehydrates perfectly well when cooked along with the meat.
And that results in taco meat that has not only amazing flavor but fantastic texture. Look at all those specks of minced garlic and onion and flavorful oregano. You won't want to use anything else for your Taco Tuesdays.
Helpful Tips for this Easy Taco Seasoning:
- It's best to combine all the seasonings directly in a pint jar. This recipe makes slightly more ½ cup (10 tablespoons). That's enough for 5 taco nights (when using 1 pound each).
- I appreciate getting all my spices in bulk on Amazon or Costco and I store them in my garage refrigerator when I need to refill. I make all my seasonings from scratch so unless you do the same, it wouldn't be worth it. However, for your convenience, the following are all 1 pound bags of spices and herbs as used in this recipe.
- Chili Powder (or use my recipe in this post)
- Ground Cumin
- Minced Garlic
- Minced Onion
- Oregano
- Red Pepper Flakes
- This recipe can be used with ground beef, tossed with roast chicken and reheated on a skillet, and any other meat used in tacos and nachos. It can also be used in chilis like the Low Carb Pumpkin Turkey Chili. Feel free to use this seasoning in any of your favorite Mexican dishes.
